Darryl Worley‘s “Have We Forgotten” is out now. The song is the sequel to his “Have You Forgotten?” song, released in 2003. Worley debuted the new song on stage at the Grand Ole Opry, the same place he first performed “Have You Forgotten?” 20 years ago.
“One of the first times we played ‘Have You Forgotten?’ live back then was on the Grand Ole Opry. The incredible response we received from that performance is how it all started,” Worley said. “We recently decided to sit down and write a new lyric for the song that’s appropriate for this day and time with what’s happening in our country today.
“For the new version ‘Have We Forgotten,’ we wanted to be certain we said what we were truly feeling in our hearts and didn’t compromise what we believe in, which is exactly how it went down with the original,” he continued. “I’m very proud of the message of the song.”
“Have We Forgotten” is being released on Big Machine Label Group, reuniting him with a lot of the same people who worked with Worley at the now-closed DreamWorks record label at the start of Worley’s career, including label founder Scott Borchetta.
“It’s an unbelievable honor and beyond humbling to have the opportunity to release a new version of that career song with these same people,” Worley shared. “Second chances are hard to come by and I don’t take this moment to work with this special group of people lightly! I know Scott’s work ethic, passion, drive and heart so I can’t think of anything more perfect than to be reunited with him and this dream team for ‘Have We Forgotten.’”
Worley has released several songs throughout his career, including “A Good Day to Run,” “Second Wind,” “I Miss My Friend” and more, but none have had the impact of “Have You Forgotten?”
“I’ll tell you this: ‘Have You Forgotten?’ has always been my crown jewel,” Worley told Everything Nash. “It was the biggest song I’ve ever had. I love some of the other hit songs, but that song has just done so much for me and my family, and hopefully and prayerfully, it did a lot for the people that loved it as well. A lot of those were men and women in the military and first responders, and people who just need our support.”
“Have We Forgotten” is out now, but Worley hints there might be more new music on the horizon as well.
“The other music is a little bit different too,” Worley revealed. “We’ve been looking at doing some things in some of the larger churches, and those kind of venues for a little while now. And some of this new music, it walks the fine line between what you might consider a spiritual song, and a secular song. It has a little bit of a deeper message, and a little more substance maybe than some of the stuff we do from time to time.”
