New music is coming from Darryl Worley, but it won’t be a regular studio album. The Tennessee native reveals he is putting the finsihing touches on a new record, in honor of his hit single, “Have You Forgotten?” released in 2003.
“We’ve got a label that we’re working with, and we’re sitting down to define all that in the next week,” Worley tells Everything Nash. “We have a special project that involves ‘Have You Forgotten?,’ because this is the 20th anniversary of that song, and its debut. There’s not a whole lot I can tell you about this right now. It’s pretty hush-hush.”
Worley may not be able to give many details, but he does say that he feels immense gratitude for that song, and what it did — both for him and for others — in the years since it was first released.
“I’ll tell you this: ‘Have You Forgotten?’ has always been my crown jewel,” Worley says. “It was the biggest song I’ve ever had. I love some of the other hit songs, but that song has just done so much for me and my family, and hopefully and prayerfully, it did a lot for the people that loved it as well. A lot of those were men and women in the military and first responders, and people who just need our support.”
Worley has made a name for himself with not only “Have You Forgotten?,” which became the title track of his 2003 compilation album, but with songs like “I Miss My Friend,” “Awful, Beautiful Life,” “A Good Day to Run” and more. With this forthcoming new project, the singer-songwriter says his fans might be surprised by what he is getting ready to release.
“We have done something really, really special,” Worley shares. “And I think that will probably be the first thing that anybody will hear or be exposed to. But the other music is a little bit different too. We’ve been looking at doing some things in some of the larger churches, and those kind of venues for a little while now. And some of this new music, it walks the fine line between what you might consider a spiritual song, and a secular song. It has a little bit of a deeper message, and a little more substance maybe than some of the stuff we do from time to time.
“And so, I think that there will be new music, and I think it’ll be coming pretty soon. We’re pretty excited about getting in and finishing some of this stuff up. That’s about all I can talk about,” he adds with a laugh.
One thing Worley can talk about freely is his upcoming performance on the Country Music Cruise. Worley is part of an all-star lineup this year, which also includes Tracy Lawrence, Shenandoah, Billy Dean, Neal McCoy, Joe Nichols, Home Free , Clint Black, Wade Hayes, Linda Davis, Jimmy Fortune, Moe Bandy and more.
“This is the ultimate lineup for me. We won’t sleep a wink. We’ll be at every show on the boat,” Worley says. “I love all these acts. I feel very, very honored and flattered to be a part of all this, ’cause these guys, for me, were the hitmakers. They made me go, ‘You know what? I’m not giving up on this. I’m gonna get back in the ring, and give it another whirl.’ There may be some guys out there with us this time that I wouldn’t have even done this if it hadn’t been for them.”
The Country Music Cruise sets sail on January 20 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It will travel to Grand Turk, Key West and Half Moon Cay, before returning on January 27. Cabins are on sale now.
