Dax, best known as a rapper, might be just introducing himself to country music fans, but that doesn’t mean he is shying away from tough topics. The 28-year-old just released a new song, “Dear Alcohol,” featuring Elle King in both the song and video. While the title of the song might seem to be touting the benefits of drinking, Dax is actually addressing alcoholism in the song, with the video beginning with an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
“It was amazing to join forces with Elle King on this remix and tackle a problem millions are fighting in silence,” says Dax. “The impact is touching lives and this visual adds depth to already powerful lyrics.”
“As musicians it’s our job to talk about all sides of life and I commend Dax for addressing this issue,” adds King. “I was honored to join him on this song to help shine a light for so many who are struggling.”
Dax revealed on social media that “Dear Alcohol” was much more than just another single to release for him.
“This one’s personal to me,” Dax said. “Share it with everyone and anyone and let’s continue to make an impact with music for the people. Love y’all.”
In fact, Dax chose to get sober earlier this year, with “Dear Alcohol” becoming a letter he was penning for himself, and his own sobriety.
“I just found myself being more social, and more confident,” Dax explains (via JoinClubSoda.com). “So then it became a thing where it was almost like I wish I could be this super confident all the time. So I just felt like I was chasing him and trying to like bridge the gap between this super confident person when he’s drunk and my normal…shy self.”
In March, Dax revealed that he was 30 days sober, thanks in part to “Dear Alcohol,” which was part of the impetus for his sobriety.
“This is the LONGEST i’ve gone without drinking any alcohol in eight years,” Dax said at the time. “I’m proud of myself. ‘Dear Alcohol’ has been a great catapult for me and I don’t plan on slowing down. I can’t say I’ll never drink again BUT I do know I won’t get caught in that perpetual cycle.”
