Dennis Quaid is releasing a gospel album. The award-winning actor will release Fallen: A Gospel Record For Sinners, out on July 28 on Gaither Music Group. Quaid just released his version of “Why Me Lord,” a cover of Kris Kristofferson‘s classic song, released in 1973.
Fallen: A Gospel Record For Sinners features hymns like “Just As I Am” and “Amazing Grace,” along with several original songs by Quaid, including “On My Way To Heaven.” The song, honoring his mother and her constant belief in him, was part of the I Can Only Imagine soundtrack, the 2018 film starring Quaid.
“I wrote it for my mom because my mom has always been there, her faith is unquestionable, so solid,” Quaid previously told CBN News of the song. “So I wrote it for her, but I guess it’s my story.”
Quaid might be known as an award-winning actor, starring in films like The Parent Trap, Footloose, American Underdog and more, but he has also been pursuing music in recent years, including songs he performs with his band, The Sharks.
“I guess it was teenage therapy… then it became young adult therapy,” Quaid previously told American Songwriter. “I don’t know, songwriting is almost like an affliction—it’s something you have to do. You can’t just get rid of it. If a phrase or idea gets in your head, it won’t leave you alone until you finish it. That’s basically what it’s always been for me—that’s the only way I can really describe it. And looking back, I can listen to old songs and know where I was when I wrote them. It’s like a diary or a journal in that way.”
