Dolly Parton already has Dollywood in East Tennessee, but Nashville residents and visitors will soon have another place to honor the country music megastar. The 76-year-old reveals plans are in place to open a museum in her honor, in the heart of Music City.
“I’m going to have a museum here [in Nashville] pretty soon, within the next couple of years,” Parton tells The Tennessean. “We have the museum at Dollywood, of course, but I would love to have something here since this is really my home. And I may have a restaurant or a bar and grill. Right now though, I’ve got so many things going. I can do without that for the moment. But someday I will have a business here.”
Parton also reiterates claims she made earlier that she is largely done with touring, preferring at this stage in her life to stay closer to home.
“I don’t see as much traveling or touring as I see performing,” Parton maintains. “I’ll be doing special things here and there, but I don’t want to tour that much anymore. I’ve done that. I don’t like being gone four to six weeks a year in order to do an overseas tour. … And that’s just a little long.”
The Country Music Hall of Fame member said earlier this year, prior to her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that after decades of spending time on the road, she was choosing to close that chapter of her life and career.
“I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband,” Parton told Pollstar. “We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fan.”
Parton might be staying closer to home, but she’s as busy as ever, including her Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas, which stars Jimmy Fallon, Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tom Everett Scott, Ana Gasteyer and more. Zach Williams and Jimmie Allen will also appear as guest stars. The movie premieres on December 1 on NBC.
