Dolly Parton has made a career about writing powerful songs about timely subject matter, and her latest is no exception. The Country Music Hall of Fame member just released “When Life is Good Again,” a powerful song of hope while the nation grapples with the impact of coronavirus.
The song, which says in part, “Let’s open up our hearts / And let the love shine in / We’ve all got knees to bend / And we’ll just pray ’til then / Ask God’s forgiveness when / Life is good again,” was written by Dolly, while she, like so many others, was quarantined at home because of COVID-19.
Dolly has done more than just write a song about the personal struggles so many are facing. She generously donated a million dollars to Vanderbilt University, to help fund research in finding a cure for coronavirus.
“My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards research of the coronavirus for a cure,” Dolly shared on social media. “I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research and to encourage people that can afford it to make donations.”
The 74-year-old also praised those working on the frontlines of the pandemic, especially those in Tennessee, who dealt with a deadly tornado right before the impact of COVID-19 began.
Thank you to the @TNMilitaryDept and all of the volunteers in Tennessee and around the world helping bring aid to those in need during these difficult times ❤️ We appreciate you! pic.twitter.com/4GzqoEDbyH

“I’m so proud of those folks in the National Guard,” Dolly said. “My niece Danielle Parton has been part of that for years and years, and she’s always telling me all the great things that they do, so I know that both the Tennessee Army National Guard and the Tennessee Air National Guard have been working nonstop since the tornado ripped through in early March, and then moved right into the COVID-19 response.
“Members of the Tennessee National Guard have provided tornado cleanup, search and rescue assistance, medical supply distribution, chaplain services, COVID-19 testing, and provided nurses to assist where staffing was at a critical level, due to the COVID-19, as well as maintaining their normal mission, both here and around the world,” she continued. “Every member working the response has volunteered to do so. After all, we are the Volunteer State, and I appreciate all of you, and I know that everybody else does to, so thank you so much.”
