Dolly Parton just released the video for her new song, “When Life is Good Again.” The 74-year-old wanted to both encourage and honor those working on the frontlines during the coronavirus pandemic, while addressing those who are also struggling during the uncertain times.
“Since our world was forever changed by the COVID virus, I have felt a deep respect and appreciation for all of our frontline responders,” Dolly said in a statement. “This video is to pay respect to them and to remind all of us that this too shall pass. If we pull together as a community, we can rise above and look forward to more beautiful days on the horizon. I hope you love this song as much as I have loved bringing it to you.”
Dolly has made an entire career out of writing about people’s personal experiences, which is why she felt compelled to write “When Life is Good Again.”
“I really try to write what I think everybody is going through right now,” Dolly explained to TIME. “I try to create things that I think people would like to be able to express, because I’ve always been grateful that I’m a writer.”
The country music icon has witnessed plenty of hardships and trials over the years, which is why she is convinced that people will survive COVID-19, and be stronger in the end.
“I think we have to pull together a little better,” Dolly said. “I just think we’re just getting so scattered and so selfish, and we’re just letting too many good things go by.”
“And we will get through it,” she added. “Everything has to pass.”
Dolly is already looking forward to the time when life returns to a sense of normalcy, which she is confident will happen in the future.
“When life is good again, it’s going to be better than it ever was,” Dolly vowed. “I know I’ll be a better person. I can see a lot of things that I can do better than I did before.”
