Dolly Parton is releasing a new children’s book! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member announces the release of Billy the Kid Makes it Big, The book, out on April 25, 2023, is about Parton’s god-dog, Billy the Kid, a dog who barks to the beat of country music, and decides to head to Nashville to become a country music star. But when Billy the Kid encounters some bullies at the Battle of the Bow-wows, he calls on his favorite songs, and his new friends, to find his self-confidence again.
“I am so proud to bring this book and the message it conveys to life,” Parton says. “Years back I wrote a song ‘Makin’ Fun Ain’t Funny’ for my children’s album I Believe In You. I wanted kids to understand how harmful bullying can be to someone. When I launched the Doggy Parton line of pet products earlier this year, my god-dog Billy got to be the star of the show. Since he’s a big star now, I knew a story with him at the center could help drive home important messages in a unique way. I hope this is the first of many books with Billy.”
Billy the Kid Makes it Big is being released on Penguin Workshop, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers.
“Working with Dolly is a true delight, and we’re so happy to adopt her god-dog, Billy the Kid, into the Penguin Workshop family!” says Francesco Sedita, President, Penguin Workshop. “This story is going to bring joy (and a little bit of country) to so many.”
Parton will be spreading plenty of good cheer this holiday season — $100 million worth. The 76-year-old was granted the Bezos Courage and Civility Award by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, to disperse to the charities of her choice.
“Well, I couldn’t believe it,” Parton told Entertainment Tonight. “First of all, I cried on the phone with Jeff Bezos. And when I found out he was really serious about it, I just cried because of the gift and how much good I will really be able to do with that.”
Parton launched Doggy Parton over the summer, with a portion of the proceeds going to Willa B. Farms, an animal rescue organization.
“Puppy Love was my very first record and six decades later, my love for pets is stronger than ever,” Parton said. “This inspired me to start my own line of Doggy Parton apparel, accessories, toys and more with a little ‘Dolly’ flair.’ Part of the proceeds will support Willa B Farms, a rescue where animals in need find never-ending love. Don’t we all need that?’”
