Dylan Scott, ‘This Town’s Been Too Good To Us’: Story Behind the Song

Dylan Scott has the No. 1 song in the country right now, with “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us.” The song is from Scott’s Livin’ My Best Life (Still), released in 2024.

“It’s about where I grew up. It’s something else I’ve lived. … Everybody’s from a town somewhere, right? So I feel like people can relate to it,” Scott says (via Country Top 40 With Fitz).

The song is the sixth No. 1 of Scott’s career, and his second in a row, coming after his hit single, “Can’t Have Mine (Find You A Girl).”

“It’s another song [where] we put it out and [it] started streaming well and people wanted to hear it. So we knew we had to take it to radio as the follow-up to ‘Can’t Have Mine‘ and it’s doing well for us,” he says.

Scott wrote “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us” with John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Taylor Phillips and Ryan Vojtesak.

“I feel like everybody can say the same thing about where they’re from – whether it’s a city or whether it’s not even a town, just a middle-of-nowhere map dot,” the Louisiana native says on Backstage Country. “Everybody’s appreciative of where they grew up and how they grew up, and so this is my story and my thank you to my hometown.”

Scott’s first chart-topping single was “My Girl,” released in 2016. He also recently had a No. 1 song with Dylan Marlowe, on “Boys Back Home,” from Marlowe’s Mid-Twenties Crisis record.

“This No. 1 is special to me!” Scott says. “A song about where I grew up and the people I grew up with. To be able to have two songs hit No. 1 in 2025 is crazy! I’m grateful for my promo team at Curb who fight for my music every single day and to all the radio stations out there that continue to support my music. Thank y’all!”

Scott recently announced the release of his third studio album, Easy Does It. The 11-track record, which will also include “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us,” will be out on May 30.

“This album is a collection of songs that I love and felt strongly about releasing,” says Scott. “For me, the phrase ‘easy does it’ represents where I’m at in my life right now. I’ve spent so much time in the past focusing on what I was going to do next in my career, comparing myself to my peers and worrying about what others needed from me. But now, having kids and being married has allowed me to see what I have right in front of me and embrace it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still working hard. But I am more comfortable with myself and my career than ever before, which has made life so much easier.”
