Easton Corbin is back, and sounding better than ever. The Florida native just released a new song, “Didn’t Miss a Beat,” which he penned with hit songwriters Brad Clawson, Shane Minor and Wade Kirby, kicking off the next chapter of his already successful career.
“I remember hearing a piece of that and thinking that it was pretty cool,” Easton told Everything Nash, speaking of the song’s catchy melody. “You never know the direction it’s gonna take you a lot of times, and sometimes you change directions, but we ended up hitting it out of the park.”
It’s ben five years since Easton’s last record, About to Get Real. The album included the hit singles, “Baby Be My Love Song” and “A Girl Like You.” While Easton didn’t intend to stay away for so long, he isn’t at all bothered by the gap between new music either.
“It’s actually been a great opportunity to reset, go back and really kind get back to my roots,” shared the singer. “I had a lot of time to go back and write songs, and take my time writing songs that I love. It’s kind of like when you first start out, as the old saying goes, you have your whole life to write your first record, and the rest it’s like, boom, boom, boom. And this has kind of given me that opportunity to go back and reset and go back to my roots and write some songs I love. And I think it’s the right direction. It’s all about the song.”
Easton first introduced himself to country music in 2009 with his mega-hit, “A Little More Country Than That.” The song kicked off a string of hits for Easton, an unexpected surprise that proved to him he had a place in country music.
“It seems like yesterday,” Easton conceded. “I remember putting out that song. As a new artist, you never know what’s going to happen, because you don’t really have perspective as a new artist. You’re new, and you haven’t had any success yet. So I didn’t know what that song was going to do. We put that out, and of course, it did great, and was a No. 1 record. That song was really a window into how I was raised, where I’m from and who I really am.”
Easton promises more new music is coming from him as well. Although he isn’t sure if it will be an EP or a full album at this point, he does vow that there’s much, much more his fans can expect from him.
“We’re working on new material and I’m excited to get it out there to people,” Easton said. “This is material that I’ve been working on the past year and a half, so I really feel like these songs fit who I am and where I am. I just think it’s going to resonate with my fans.”
Easton will perform “Didn’t Miss a Beat” on the Today Show on Thursday, September 3. Download the single by visiting his website.
