Florida Georgia Line has had unprecedented success in country music, with record-breaking singles, platinum-selling albums and sold-out tours. The duo, made up of Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, met as worship leaders in college, when being an artist wasn’t even in either of their plans.
“It’s been amazing, as songwriters and artists together doing this together, having my best friend, my brother, we’re not doing it alone,” Brian said during the Songland podcast (via iHeartRadio‘s Cody Alan). “I think we’re better together. We’re stronger. And our favorite quote we’ve heard is ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ I think we push each other creatively. It just works.”
Florida Georgia Line just co-wrote “Second Guessing,” as part of the TV show, Songland, with aspiring writer Griffen Palmer. Both Tyler and Brian are big fans of Songland because it focuses on the song above anything else.
“Me and BK moved moved to Nashville to be songwriters,” Tyler acknowledged. “Ultimately, we’re songwriters at heart. That’s our number one passion. So to showcase to the world that not all artists write their own music and there actually is a career called songwriting. There actually is a lot of importance put on the song. We say without a great song, there’s no foundation for anything. The song comes first before anything else. I think this show really does a great job of doing that.”
Florida Georgia Line will drop their 6-Pack EP this Friday, May 22. Their current single, “I Love My Country,” is in the Top 20.
