Gabby Barrett is sharing more details about her new sophomore album. The American Idol alum, who just dropped her latest single, “Glory Days” from the record, already said she had a song written by Luke Combs on the project, and a song she wrote and sings with Miranda Lambert, but says there might be a few more surprises on her next set of tunes.
“There’s lots of collabs,” Barrett tells Apple Music Country’s Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen. “Luke Combs wrote one of the songs on the album and I fell in love with it. And then I did another song with Miranda Lambert that’ll be involved on the album. And you never know, there could be something else that pops up before we get to early fall. So there’s just a lot to look forward to.”
Barrett’s debut Goldmine record came out in 2020. Since then, the Pennsylvania native has grown and evolved a lot, which will be evident on her new album.
“Second album, hopefully the goal for that is to release it in the early fall,” Barrett hints. “And I think this album is just next level in a way… I think it has a more just continual vein to it. It’s not kind of all over the place. I have to be very vulnerable about some of the subjects that are talked about. It’s very close to my heart in a different way than the first album was, for sure.”
Barrett had been married to fellow Idol contestant Cade Foehner for less than a year when Goldmine came out. The project included her record-setting, chart-topping debut single, “I Hope,” which Barrett says that, although it is autobiographical, it fortunately isn’t about her current husband.
“I’m not really the person who likes to sing or create songs that don’t apply to my life,” Barrett explains. “I never can jive with them. The most genuine songs for me are the ones that literally do apply. So when I wrote ‘I Hope,’ that did apply to a story in my life. I was I think only maybe dating my husband at the time. I was dating him, but I was 19, so high school was still pretty fresh on the brain and I had an awful, terrible breakup in high school. And so that was very genuine. Then I wrote ‘The Good Ones.’ ‘The Good Ones’ was written about Cade, my husband.”
“Glory Days,” already quickly climbing the charts, was written by Barrett, along with Emily Weisband, Seth Mosley, and James McNair, and one that is very much about the singer’s life now.
“I wrote it with a group of friends, and we were just kind of talking about my life,” Barrett tells Everything Nash. “I mean, I’ve lived a lot of life in a short amount of years, I would say. I have a husband, I’ve been married for four years, and I’m only 23. I have two children. I’ve done a lot of things in music, and in country music. I’ve been to awards shows. There are just a lot of lovely things that have happened, and I’m living in my glory days right now, I think.”
