Garth Brooks isn’t about to let the coronavirus pandemic keep him from performing in front of his fans. The country music superstar just announced that he will host a concert event at 300 drive-in theaters on June 27, in cities all across the country, as a way to play music while keeping everyone safe.
“I am so excited to get to play again. I have missed it so much and want to get back to it,” Garth said in a statement. “This drive-in concert allows us all to get back to playing live music without the uncertainty of what would be the result to us as a community. This is old school, new school, and perfect for the time we are in.”
According to Good Morning America, Encore Live, the production company for Garth’s upcoming tour, is partnering with health experts to make sure safety measures are in place, including limiting restroom capacity and having no-contact payment and ticketing systems.
“Families need safe entertainment options that they can enjoy together this summer,” Walter Kinzie, Encore Live’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer maintained “We’re excited to partner with Garth, who’s already done so much to help the entertainment industry during these tough times, to provide a truly unique and incredible concert that will do a whole lot of good for local businesses and communities.”
Garth will likely perform some of his new songs from his upcoming Fun album, including “Party Gras” and “That’s What Cowboys Do,” even though he has no idea when the entire record will be released.
“I don’t want to be the guy that tries to do something in the midst where everybody is hurting,” Garth said during his Inside Studio G weekly Facebook series (via Billboard). “The album’s ready to go. It’s just how do you get out and promote and be happy and jolly while everybody’s out there fighting for their lives not only physically, but fighting for their lives financially.”
Tickets for the drive-in theater concert event will go on sale on June 19, and will be $100 per car or SUV. More information can be found by visiting his website.
