Garth Brooks has a lot to be thankful for this year, but at the top of the list is his wife, Trisha Yearwood. The singer-songwriter is grateful for Yearwood for not only her many talents, but just for being in his life.
“Well, we’ll talk about how great of a singer she is,” Brooks said on The Kelly Clarkson Show, also calling her one of the “greatest cooks on the planet.” “That’s probably five and six on her list of top ten things to do. When it comes to the future, I think what you’re just grateful for is just one more day of getting to do this. So I think that’s it.”
While Brooks is still moving full-speed ahead with his career, the 61-year-old knows that he wants to spend all of his days with Yearwood.
“Truthfully, if I can say what I’d love to say is, the day I take my last breath on this planet, I’d love for my three girls to be around me and I’d love for the queen to be around me,” Brooks shares. “But as far as Miss Yearwood, I’ve said this before: I found her in the past life, I’ll find her in the next. She makes it fun. She makes it really fun.”
The love and admiration between the two is definitely reciprocal. Yearwood has had quite the successful career in country music, and while there is still a lot of music she wants to make, she is happy to let that take a backseat, to focus on her relationship with Brooks.
“We got married almost 18 years ago to be together, to not be apart,” Yearwood explains (via WSMV). “So, whoever’s touring the other one is there, whether they’re on stage or not. So, we work together all the time.”
Brooks was married once before, and Yearwood has been married twice. It’s those relationships that she says helped make their own marriage so successful.
“People ask me all the time about why our marriage is successful, and I always say because we were married to other people and we were friends for a long time,” Yearwood tells The Boot. “We were friends, we were buddies, and you’ll tell your friends stuff that you would never tell a guy you’re dating, right?
“So we knew everything about each other that you would never tell somebody that you wanted to really impress [laughs],” she continues. “We had this strong base friendship that I think a lot of couples don’t get because — and I was guilty of that, too — you go straight into a romance with somebody, and a few years down the line, you’re like, ‘I don’t like this guy. What was I thinking?’”
Brooks Friends in Low Places Bar will open on Friday, November 24.
