Garth Brooks might be joining the ranks of artists like Florida Georgia Line, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan and more. The Country Music Hall of Fame member hints that he might soon open a bar on Lower Broadway, like so many of his famous friends.
“Things you probably shouldn’t say, I’m gonna say,” Garth said during his virtual press conference held earlier this week. “If you’re betting, bet toward it happening cause it’s just something that’s coming. It’s coming in the future, but it’s gonna be done the way we do it. So it’ll be its own place very much like Blake’s is his own place. We’re gonna do it our own way.
“It’s coming,” he continued. “Probably in the next two years, three years, because when you talk about Broadway, that is ‘Friends in Low Places’ right there. It’s the perfect place.”
Garth announced during his press conference that he is withdrawing his name from the list of nominees for Entertainer of the Year.
“There’s one tweet in there that really stuck in my head,” Garth announced. “It said, ‘Hey, man. This guy, why doesn’t he just step down and leave the entertainer for the next generation?’ 100% agree … With all the love in the world, we are officially pulling ourselves out of Entertainer of the Year.”
The news came as Garth is the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, a category he has won seven times throughout his illustrious career.
“My number is seven,” Garth said. “We feel very lucky with seven. And it’s time for somebody else to hold that award, know what that entertainer feels like, because they’re all out there busting their butts.”
Garth won Entertainer of the Year last year against Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, Eric Church and Carrie Underwood, with Carrie largely expected to win the category last year. The Grand Ole Opry member first asked the Country Music Association to withdraw his name, which they said they were unable to do.
“The CMA came back and said, ‘It’s not our call. We cannot pull you out of our awards,’” Garth explained. “So today we sit here and humbly ask with all the gratefulness and love in the world, we are going to do it ourselves. We’re going to pull ourselves out of Entertainer of the Year.”
Garth’s news was met with mixed reactions, with some applauding his decision, and others, including Steve Wariner and Blake, expressing disappointment in the news.
If you’ve ever seen @garthbrooks live, you know why he consistently wins entertainer of the year. There is no one as big as Garth, but more importantly there is no one as kind. pic.twitter.com/qGYF29YkoY

“If you’ve ever seen Garth Brooks live, you know why he consistently wins entertainer of the year. There is no one as big as Garth, but more importantly there is no one as kind,” Steve posted on social media. “I have been fortunate enough to call Garth a close friend for years, and I know who he is off stage as well; one of the kindest people on the entire planet. Garth; you are not just entertainer of the year, you are a legend forever, and you really earned it. This is a shame!”
“Agreed Steve…. He is Garth Brooks,” Blake said when retweeting Steve’s statement. “GARTH BROOKS!!! I don’t give a sh– what anyone says. ANYONE. Entertainer of the century.”
