Gavy LeVox is giving an update on the Rascal Flatts farewell Life Is a Highway Tour, which never happened because of the pandemic. The trio, which also included Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, officially disbanded to work on their own music, while fans hoped the tour would one day happen.
In April of 2021, DeMarcus said he hoped it would still take place, but now LeVox says that the chance of their Life Is a Highway Tour ever hitting the road seemed slim.
“[We] haven’t had any conversations,” LeVox told Us Weekly, speaking of reuniting the band one more time, adding that it’s “not really off the table.”
“I don’t know what the future holds but, you know, for now I’m just having a blast,” he added. “I think Jay and Joe Don are doing their thing. … So, we’ll see. Who knows?”
LeVox previously said that it was Rooney who was ready for Flatts to end, after two decades together — a decision he found heartbreaking.
“It kind of came out of nowhere,” LeVox told People. “It was like, ‘Let me try to wrap my head around this.’ And then I certainly wasn’t OK with the pandemic, which canceled everything. I hate the way that it ended. I hate that we didn’t get to do this farewell tour. I can’t stand the fact that it just feels there’s no closure with something that we’ve been so blessed with. That will always be in my heart.”
But now that all three Flatts members are each doing their own thing, the 52-year-old rarely talks to his former bandmates anymore, a far cry from how they spent their 20 years together.
“We don’t talk as much,” LeVox admitted. “We’re not doing business together … We wish each other the best.”
“[I] want nothing but the best for those two and, you know, hopefully, everything’s happy and healthy and their families are good,” he added.
LeVox certainly hasn’t spent his time being idle. He recently released his “Get Down Like That” single, following the release of his spiritual One On One album.
“It’s all about the music,” LeVox says of his new chapter. “After doing it so long with Flatts, and just the way that whole thing ended and all that, I was just ready to go, you know? And new seasons and new journeys are good for careers. … I’m working more than I thought I was going to or than I really wanted to, but now we’re here, let’s just go.”
