George Strait Drops ‘Three Drinks Behind’ From ‘Cowboys and Dreamers’ [LISTEN]

A new song from George Strait is here! The 72-year-old just dropped “Three Drinks Behind,” from his forthcoming Cowboys and Dreamers album. The song was written by Benjamin Gaither, Jeff Silvey and Kim Williams.

Strait has already released other tracks from Cowboys and Dreamers, including “MIA Down in MIA,” “The Little Things,” “Waymore’s Blues” and “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame,” the latter a duet with Chris Stapleton. Strait is dedicating the record to three people close to him, who have recently passed away, including two on the same day.

“I’m dedicating this record to my longtime manager and friend  Erv Woolsey and my longtime fiddle player and friend Gene Elders (a player on four of these tracks), who we lost on the same day, March 20, 2024, as well as my longtime friend and road manager Tom Foote, who we lost on April 29, 2024,”  Strait recently said. “I will never forget all of the good times we had together. May they rest in peace with our Lord Jesus Christ.”

It’s fitting that Stapleton is on the new record, since it was Stapleton who convinced Strait to head back out for another run of stadium shows, continuing a tour that began in 2023.

“I think I halfway talked him into working more, but I really enjoyed doing that,” Stapleton said last fall. “I think it’s a good show to come to because George has ten million number ones, and people can watch all that, and what a great thing to get to watch. I love to be the opener for that. I love to walk out on stage and sing a few with George.

“It’s just a really fun show with me, and Little Big Town is usually on those shows, and they’re all friends, and it’s fun,” he added. “And so, I want to keep doing that as much as we can, and I keep talking George into it, so it’s good.”

The King of Country Music just set a new record in the United States for the highest concert attendance, with 110,905 tickets sold for his show at A&M’s Kyle Field last month.

“I’ve always said I’ve got the best fans in the world and Saturday night at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas says it all,” Strait shared on social media after the milestone event. “Thanks to Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman who were both a huge part of that night and thanks to all of you Aggies out there who made this happen. What a special place!! I will always remember you.”

Strait is scheduled to be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2025, part of a class that also includes Keith Urban, Green Day, Depeche Mode, American Idol‘s Fantasia Barrino, the B-52s, the Isley Brothers, Busta Rhymes and Prince.
