George Strait is heading back on the road this summer. The 72-year-old announces he will continue his Stadium Tour in 2025, joined once again by Chris Stapleton for all shows, plus Parker McCollum for four East Coast shows, and Little Big Town for the only West Coast show.
“I keep trying to slow down a bit but you keep calling me back,” Strait says. “Please don’t ever stop. I still love it just as much as I always have. Thank you for an amazing year last year and I can’t wait to see you for a few more again this year. Chris will be back and glad to have Little Big Town with us in LA. For the other cities, we’ve added Parker M. to the show which will be outstanding. Can’t wait to see you!!”
Strait continues to set records and achieve new accolades. He is the latest recipient of the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, given to Strait at the recent CMA Awards. It was Stapleton who presented him with the trophy, after several artists performed in Strait’s honor.
“First of all, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Strait said when accepting the award. “And I want to thank the CMAs for adding my name to the incredible artists on this small list of recipients, carrying the name of the icon, Willie Nelson. I want to thank all of these great artists, who performed some of my songs that I’ve recorded over the years. It’s amazing to hear you all do them. I’m so glad I got them before you. I want to thank MCA Records, all my fans. You all are great.
“My band,” he continued, “recognizing that my manager, [Erv] Woolsey, road manager Tom Foote, and fiddle player Gene Elders are resting in peace with the Lord. And last but not least, my family who are all here tonight. My wife, Norma, my son Bubba, his wife Tamara, my grandkids Harvey and Jilliann. It’s so great to have you all here. But especially Norma, who has supported me for just shy of 53 years in December. It’s been an amazing 53 years, too. Thank you, everybody.”
It’s fitting that Stapleton is once again joining Strait on the road, since Stapleton can take at least partial credit for Strait resuming his stadium tour, which began in 2023.
“I think I halfway talked him into working more, but I really enjoyed doing that,” Stapleton previously said. “I think it’s a good show to come to because George has ten million number ones, and people can watch all that, and what a great thing to get to watch. I love to be the opener for that. I love to walk out on stage and sing a few with George … I want to keep doing that as much as we can, and I keep talking George into it, so it’s good.”
Last year’s Stadium Tour included Strait setting a new United States record. The King of Country Music sold an astonishing 110,905 tickets at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field, setting a new record for the largest single ticketed concert event in the history of the United States.
