Gwen Stefani is crediting a higher power for her relationship with her husband, Blake Shelton, whom she wed in 2021. The mother of three says it was God who orchestrated their relationship, ever since they began dating in 2015.
“God put us together. It was one of those miracle situations where I didn’t see it coming,” Stefani shared on The Drew Barrymore Show (via People). “I was like, ‘I’m gonna wake up every day, I’m gonna have a coffee, I’m gonna take care of my kids and then I’m gonna go to bed. I’m never gonna kiss anyone.’ I thought my life was over and then Blake Shelton’s like, ‘Hey. I’m Blake Shelton.'”
Stefani was in the middle of her divorce from Gavin Rossdale, while Shelton’s marriage to Miranda Lambert was ending, when sparks unexpectedly flew between Stefani and Shelton. But now that they are happily husband and wife, the No Doubt singer says their relationship actually makes perfect sense.
“Finding a best friend, someone that is on the same plane when it comes to morals, or just the way you look at life, that’s the dream,” Stefani gushes. “We think the same about things, yet we’re so different. Like, he’s watching football and doing his stuff that he does, and I’m putting makeup on. We are so different, yet we’re so the same on so many levels.”
Stefani has been very vocal about her love of her husband, and how fortunate she feels that they found each other. But Shelton also has spoken out about his love for his wife, and his own belief that God brought them together.
“I think honestly looking back under the circumstances that Gwen and I fell in love with each other and got together, that alone was all of the proof I needed,” Shelton told Lon Helton at the Country Radio Seminar earlier this year. “She has such a strong faith in God. I mean, if Gwen was sitting here right now, she would [say it’s] God, and then everything else. That’s number one in her life and has been her whole life. She doesn’t beat you over the head with it; she would never do that. That’s her relationship.
“But I’ve learned a lot from Gwen about a lot of things,” he continued, “really just watching her and learning from her and learning how she thinks and how she treats people, and how she just operates in her life.”
