HARDY and Lainey Wilson officially have a No. 1 hit! The two just landed at the top of the charts, with their “wait in the truck” collaboration. The song, which became the fastest-rising single of HARDY’s career, is from his latest the mockingbird & THE CROW album, out now.
“I’m just so happy a song like this still has a place in country music,” HARDY says. “Thanks to everyone involved for taking this song to the top, and for believing in this one.”
“I’m so honored HARDY asked me to join him on a song that’s had an impact on so many people and shed light on a topic a lot of folks are scared to talk about,” adds Wilson. “He is one of the most brilliant songwriters I’ve ever met and puts on one heck of a show.
“I can’t wait to be back out on the road together this fall!”” she adds, referring to his headlining the mockingbird & THE CROW Tour, which includes Wilson as the opening act.
The two singers recently won the CMT Music Award for Collaborative Video of the Year for “wait in the truck.”
“I remember the day that Jordan Schmidt, who I wrote the song with, sent me back the demo for the song,” HARDY recalled at the time. “And I was so inspired that I wrote the entire script if you will, for the music video, because I knew how powerful the song would be. I just gotta say thank you to Lainey, for working so hard.”
“I just gotta say, I’m so proud to be a small part of that song,” Wilson continued. “When I heard the song, I tell you, I felt like this was an opportunity for people who have been through this to feel like they’re not alone, and it’s an opportunity for people who have been doing this — don’t even get me started. I just want to say thank you so much to HARDY. I love you buddy.”
HARDY and Wilson are also nominated for three trophies for “wait in the truck” at the upcoming ACM Awards. The thought-provoking duet is nominated for Song of the Year, Music Event of the Year and Visual Media of the Year. Not surprisingly, HARDY leads the list of nominees with seven total, followed closely by Wilson, who has six.
