Home Free last performed at the Grand Ole Opry in March, prior to the start of their current Crazy(er) Life Tour. For a group that has performed in some of the best and most iconic venues, all over the world, the Grand Ole Opry remains one of their favorite places to sing their songs.
“It never gets old … It’s nice to finally do this, and not have our knees knocking together on our way in,” Tim Foust tells Everything Nash.
The Crazy(er) Life Tour is to celebrate the release of their latest Crazy(er) Life album. The songs on the record are all reimagined versions of the tracks on their Crazy Life record, which was their first release after winning The Sing-Off in 2014.
“This is the first time we’ve ever gone in the studio with songs in our bones,” Foust explains “Usually, we’re working on new material, and we’re still learning how to perform it the best we can. Whereas, some of these songs, we’ve literally been singing for ten years straight. So it’s nice to go into the studio confident on how to perform them.”
Home Free just released “Vincent” with Don McLean, which follows their 2021 collaboration of “American Pie.”
“There is a case to be made for ‘Vincent’ being the best-written song of all time,” Foust says. “Musically AND lyrically, it just doesn’t get any better. What an unbelievable honor to share the microphone with Don McLean on his masterpiece. And the fact that this is our second collaboration with him is surreal beyond words.”
Home Free also joins McLean on the title track of his new American Boys album, out on May 17. Fortunately, Home Free is also working on plenty of their own music, including a new project, this one without Austin Brown, who recently announced he was leaving the group at the end of their Crazy(er) Life Tour to focus on other projects.
“Life is beautiful, life is long,” Brown says of his decision to leave Home Free. “We all go through seasons. And for me, it’s a new chapter. It’s a turning of a page. I’m always going to be in Home Free in my heart. And I’m just excited. I’ve got an incredible wife. I want to be home. I want to figure out a way to not be on the road as much these days. I’ve loved it for a decade, and then one day I just realized that I think it’s time for me to slow down.”
