Home Free has a fun new song and video, out now. The all-vocal group just released the video for “Get Low, Get High.” The song was written by Brandon Jay Day, Cary Barlowe, and Willie Jones. Jones has also been performing the song, which has become part of many Home Free shows in recent years as well.
It was the pandemic that became the unlikely inspiration for the feel-good track.
“It had rained hard the night before, and then, the next day, when we got together to write, the sun was out, and it was just a really beautiful day,” Jones recalls (via Taste of Country). “I actually wrote this song in my backyard on the computer during [the COVID-19] quarantine. I was just talking to Cary and Brandon about the weather and just how things go from dark to light and that whole duality. We just started talking about life, and the song was born … ‘Get Low, Get High’ is a mantra signaling something better is coming soon, and when it does, we’re gonna appreciate it more than ever. Have faith.”
The new video comes as Home Free is also working on something else new. The five-man group revealed earlier this year that they are working on a new way to get fans involved in their shows, by letting them choose the songs they perform.
“I’ll say that we are toying around with the idea later in the year of possibly doing a tour in which every show is different, and the setlist is dictated by the fans,” Tim Foust hints to Everything Nash. In addition to the new tour regime, Foust also hints that Home Free will likely have a new record out in 2025 as well.
“We always have a new album coming out. But we’re working on a very special project right now, that in some ways is a departure for us. In some ways,” Foust teases.
Home Free’s Adam Bastien is the latest member to join the group, taking the place of Austin Brown, who left after 12 years to pursue other interests. Bastien had already performed with Home Free in the past, and is loving his new role as an official member.
“It’s been really great,” Bastien praises. “I’ve been given really good learning tracks from these guys, and everything is split up really nicely. I’ve got my part in the left ear, and all their parts in the right ear. So it makes it pretty easy for me to learn my parts. And we’re also in the process right now of doing some new material, so I get to create with them, versus just putting my voice on something that they already know. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Bastien had plenty of success on his own, but is now happy to be part of the legendary group.
“I may be a little bit biased, just from the perspective of working with the guys, [but] they’re all just very humble, down-to-earth, real people,” Bastien tells B95 Flint radio station. “I think that over the years, they’ve been able to really build a catalog of music that resonates with listeners because it’s coming from a place of honesty and of pure love for music and singing.”
