Home Free is still churning out the Christmas music! After releasing their “Go Tell It On the Mountain” collaboration with Texas Hill, the all-vocal group is back with their version of the popular Christmas song, “Mary Did You Know.”
Home Free reimagines their latest Christmas tune with their own vocal arrangement, set against a starry winter’s night. “Mary Did You Know” will likely be performed during Home Free’s upcoming show at the Ryman Auditorium, as part of their Warmest Winter Tour, which will include a guest appearance by Texas Hill.
“Go Tell It On the Mountain” began after Home Free’s Austin Brown went to see Texas Hill perform at the Nashville Palace, a chance encounter that ultimately led to one of Home Free’s favorite collaborations they have ever done.
“It’s really special, and it’s the first time we’ve really done something like this. Obviously, we did something with the Oak Ridge Boys,” Brown tells Everything Nash, referring to their “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” 2020 duet. “But this is just so different from that. The full body sound — we actually got to sing together on stage when the guys came out, and we filmed this music video in Cheyenne. We did a song on the show together, and we actually have some more shows coming up. It is some of the most fun I’ve ever had. Just getting to sing with these guys and have seven dudes just wailing is awesome. It feels so cool. I hope it’s an omen of all kinds of things to come just like this.”
Home Free was even more impressed with Texas Hill after they heard their parts on “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”
“The guys, they had their foundation already laid. Texas Hill had done their stuff,” Brown tells Everything Nash. “They were like, ‘What do you guys think about coming in and singing this with us?’ We were like, ‘Oh my God, this is a great idea.’ So we immediately got together, myself and Tim [Foust] with our main vocal producer. His name is Darren Rust … I put down my part, and then I sang probably two minutes worth of ad-libs at least. And then he picked out the things that he thought were the best, and really carved it into something that I think it’s one of my favorite things we’ve done. I can’t wait to do it live on tour.”
Home Free’s Ryman Auditorium show, which will also include Brooke Eden and Ernie Halter, will also be streamed via Mandolin. Find more information here.
