Home Free Releases ‘What We Need Is Love’ From ‘Warmest Winter’: LISTEN

Home Free has released a new song, “What We Need is Love.” The tune is from their upcoming Warmest Winter Christmas album, out on November 6. Written by Home Free member Tim Foust along with Ernie Halter, the pensive tune, the song is perfect, not just for Christmas, but for anytime of the year.

With lines that include, “I don’t care what you believe / You can always count on me / There’s wonder in the stars above / But down here what we need is love / See that man on the street / He’s a human too / If you can look without your eyes / All you’ll see is you,” “What We Need I Love” is one of 12 songs on the record, which includes five originals. Warmest Winter also includes guest vocals by AlabamaRachel Wammack and Striking Matches — three unique acts each specifically picked by Home Free.

“We’ve known Alabama for years, and we all grew up listening to their music,” Home Free member Rob Lundquist told Everything Nash. “We have opened for them in the past, and Jeff Cook has actually come out to one of our shows. We’ve been looking for an excuse to get them on a record, and ‘Christmas In Dixie’ seemed like the perfect collaboration. We were so excited they were down to record this with us.”

Rachel was invited by the group after they heard her perform, while both acts were opening for Reba McEntire, joining Home Free on the tender “Tennessee Christmas.”

“We were blown away by her talent and had been wanting to collaborate with someone on ‘Tennessee Christmas’ for a while, so we just asked her on the spot if she’d be interested,” Rob said. “Thankfully, she was.”

Striking Matches were also found thanks to an opening slot gig — when Rob saw them opening for Johnnyswim and was instantly impressed by their talent.

“I was familiar with Striking Matches because I saw them rock the house when they opened for Johnnyswim and found out afterward that we both use the same management company,” Rob recalled. “After we had recorded ‘Run, Run, Rudolph,’ we knew we needed to spice it up somehow, and we asked them if they’d be willing to make our song way cooler. They did just that.”

Warmest Winter will be released on November 6.  Pre-order the record here.
