It’s pretty clear that Jake Hoot can sing pretty much anything, including a Prince classic. The father of two recently performed a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” while serving as the opening act for an Alabama concert in Kentucky.
Hoot kicked off the song by introducing his band members, whom he affectionately called the “Band of Drummers,” prominently featuring his band members in his Prince cover as well.
We felt like “Princes” yesterday opening for Alabama in Kentucky! #purplerain

Hoot has been busy — really, really, busy — in recent months. The 34-year-old welcomed his second child, and his first with his wife, Brittney, into the world last month. Madilyn Bri, little sister to Hoot’s daughter Macy (from a previous relationship), was born on July 24, in a Nashville hospital.
“Well we did a thang last week!” Hoot shared, along with a photo of his newborn daughter, on social media. “World, meet little Miss Madilyn Bri. We couldn’t be more in love.”

The Season 17 winner of The Voice has also been working on new music, including a brand-new love song, “Before You.” Hoot also released a duet with Bri Fletcher on “There’s Still Tomorrow,” as well as his “Wherever Time Goes” duet, this one with his Brittney. Hoot also released another track by himself, the uptempo song “Had It To Lose.” And fortunately, Hoot says there will likely be a lot more music coming out in the near future as well.
“For the fall, we have some incredible new music that we’ve been writing,” Hoot tells Everything Nash. “We’re looking at doing an album, probably in the late fall or early spring of 2023. But we’re also looking forward to getting back on the road and making great things happen.”
This wasn’t Hoot’s first time opening for Alabama, and likely won’t be his last. The singer-songwriter opened for the iconic band for a couple of shows in 2021 as well, including performing for his first arena concert.
“I tell everybody that the only stage I get nervous on is the Opry just because there’s something about the Opry that gets to me every single time,” Hoot recalled to Everything Nash last year. “But it was Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida, an absolutely beautiful venue. I got to meet Teddy [Gentry] from Alabama. He was super nice. But when we got on that stage and the lights went off and that spotlight hit me, my gut dropped. It was unreal. And so, it was such a cool [thing], one, getting to open for Alabama was very special, and getting to be our first arena show was very special.”
Hoot has plenty of shows on the calendar for 2022 as well. Find music and tour dates at JakeHoot.com.
