Jason Aldean is a proud father of four. The country music hitmaker has two daughters, Keeley and Kendyl, with his first wife, Jessica, and a son, Memphis, and daughter, Navy, with his current wife, Brittany. The 47-year-old has learned plenty along the way, about being a father, a role he loves, even if it isn’t always easy.
“Patience is the key.,” Aldean tells Audacy. “I love being a parent. It’s so fun. It’s exhausting. It’s all those things. But at the end of the day, it’s the coolest thing you’ll ever do. I hear people say this a lot, but the days are long and the years are short, and that’s really true. Especially when they’re little, you’re just trying to get through the day. ‘Okay, I kept them alive for the whole day. We’re getting somewhere.’”
Now that Aldean’s youngest two are getting older, and more independent, the Georgia native admits that time goes by quickly, even if he doesn’t necessarily want to go back to the infant stage again.
“My son just turned six, my daughter turned five,” Aldean shares. “It seems like yesterday we were bringing them home from the hospital. It goes by fast. Just hang in there. It gets better. The no-sleeping thing was the worst part for me. I love to sleep, so sleeping in two-hour increments was not fun.”
Aldean is opening up about parenting as his current single, “Let Your Boys Be Country,” is in the Top 20, and climbing. Written by Allison Veltz, Micah Wilshire, and Jaron Boyer, the song is from Aldean’s latest Highway Desperado album, released last fall.
“I got a 5-year-old little boy who’s growing up in a crazy world right now,” Aldean previously told Taste of Country. “It’s like, ‘Man, just let them be kids. Let them be little. Let them go play and do all the things they’re supposed to do and figure things out for themselves.'”
Aldean had Memphis, his only son, in mind when he decided to record “Let Your Boys Be Country,” and include it on Highway Desperado.
“Little boys grow up to be men that are supposed to get married and take care of their family and be providers,” Aldean explained. “As parents, you gotta raise ’em to be that. To me, it was a song that hit home when it comes to thinking about him being little and what’s in store for him later.”
Aldean has extended his Highway Desperado Tour into 2024, due to fan demand. The tour will kick off on July 11 in Syracuse, New York, with Lauren Alaina and Hailey Whitters serving as direct support.
