Jelly Roll Drops Deluxe Album, Announces New Nashville Bar

Jelly Roll is on a roll, literally. When he released his massive, 22-track Beautifully Broken album on Friday, October 11, the Nashville native also dropped a surprise deluxe edition, Beautifully Broken (Pickin’ Up the Pieces), with six more songs, all collaborations, with Keith Urban, ERNEST, Halsey, mgk, Russ, and Skylar Grey.

It was Jelly Roll watching his mother’s struggle with mental illness, while still a child, that drew him to music. Years later, it’s still his mother who, in many ways, inspires the music he makes.

“To this day, I still think I’m writing songs to help her heal,” Jelly Roll tells TODAY. “But I think that it also made me the writer I am, because I started writing at such a young age.”

In addition to plenty of new music, Jelly Roll is joining the ranks of Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and more, by building his own Nashville bar, called Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville.

“I’m announcing it now, right here,” Jelly Roll reveals on the Joe Rogan podcast (via News Channel 5). “I am opening my bar on Broadway in Nashville, Tennessee. Which is a real big deal. You’ve been to Broadway. It’s all after country music stars. I’m the first Nashville native to get a bar.”

Jelly Roll added that there will be a bar in the back, called Buddy’s, named after his father.

“Our rule is it’s open to the public when it is, and it’s not when it’s not.”

Jelly Roll has a Top 5 hit with “I Am Not Okay” from Beautifully Broken. The 39-year-old is by now used to having hit singles, but admits that the success of “I Am Not Okay” means more to him than any of his previous releases.

“This means more to me than people will ever know,” Jelly Roll writes on social media. “To have a top 10 on country radio is always special but to have it with a song about mental health is even cooler.”

Indeed, it was his desire to help others that became the driving force in choosing the songs on Beautifully Broken.

“I’m looking for songs that have a purpose,” Jelly Roll tells the New York Times (via People). “When I go to put out a song under the name Jelly Roll, I think to myself, Why? Because for the first time in my life, it has nothing to do with a financial decision. I’m well past putting out anything for money. So, now, it really is a why.”

Jelly Roll, who has a couple more weeks left on his Beautifully Broken Tour, is nominated for three CMA Awards, including the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. He has also been announced as a co-headliner, along with Kane Brown and Keith Urban, for this year’s New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash

Jelly Roll has yet to reveal when he expects his Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville to be open. See a track list for Beautifully Broken (Pickin’ Up the Pieces) below. Find Beautifully Broken and all of Jelly Roll’s music and upcoming shows at JellyRoll615.com.
