Jelly Roll has become quite the traveler. The Nashville native has spent the past few years on the road, headlining tours all over the country, as well as enjoying vacations with his family. He has become such a fan of traveling, that he’s recently partnered with Hotels.com, as part of their Perfect 10 series, with celebrities sharing their must-haves, biggest pet peeves and more.
Jelly Roll is also sharing with us some of the best — and worst — parts of spending so much time away from home.
“I love a room with a view and a nice balcony,” Jelly Roll tells Everything Nash. “If I’m being honest I probably spend more time on the balcony than in the room if it’s really awesome.”
Of course, not every hotel stay is glamorous, as Jelly Roll can also attest. With such a busy life, the 39-year-old needs good sleep, which he admits is hard if he isn’t comfortable in his bed.
“A terrible bed with bad quality sheets,” Jelly Roll cites as his biggest hotel pet peeve. “I’ve just always been a guy who needs good quality sheets and a comfy bed or I’ll toss and turn all night and won’t get comfortable.”
Jelly Roll is arguably one of the most famous faces in country music, which can create a scene in a hotel, or anywhere Jelly Roll happens to be. Some celebrities might prefer to be left alone, but fortunately, Jelly Roll isn’t one of them.
“Listen I know that when I go anywhere, there are certain people who will know who I am— that’s the crew behind the scenes at a hotel or restaurant. From the valet to the people bringing me extra pillows at midnight— those are my people. I love to take a minute to talk to them and hear their story and take a picture.”
Jelly Roll has had plenty of uncomfortable living conditions, including while incarcerated and also enduring a period of homelessness. Now, the “Save Me” singer now wants his room to be as homey as possible, which means he’s likely getting out his wallet before he even leaves the lobby.
“If I’m at a hotel that has scented candles or other smell-good stuff in the lobby, I’m loading up while I’m there. I love certain scents that make me feel at home.”
Jelly Roll has visited plenty of hotels, and enjoyed most of them. But if he has to pick a favorite hotel, it’s one deep in the heart of Texas, and his favorite chain is one that has received his stamp of approval, time and again.
“I’ve really been fortunate to have some great experiences recently, but I love the Commodore Perry in Austin,” Jelly Roll shares. “And I have to say the Four Seasons is one chain that goes above and beyond for me— they know me and my whole crew by name and I love to know that my crew is treated just as well as I am on the road.”
Jelly Roll will kick off his Beautifully Broken Tour on August 27. Find all of his music and upcoming shows at JellyRoll615.com.
