Jelly Roll Reflects On His ‘Unreal’ 5 CMA Awards Nominations

Jelly Roll has never been nominated for a CMA Award, until now. The Nashville native will attend the ceremony this year for the first time as a nominee, with five nominations, including for Male Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year, for his second consecutive No. 1 hit with “Need A Favor.”

The surprised singer spoke out about the nominations on social media.

“It is known as Country Music’s biggest night,” Jelly Roll says. “It literally doesn’t get any bigger than this and I have five nominations. I couldn’t control myself when I got the news… everything about this is unreal. The truth is, being nominated is already a win for me. Just being recognized by my peers and by the industry for the work we put in is amazing, especially for my people, this is a win for all the underdogs and forgotten.

“These are the moments I hope my people are the most proud of, that I have taken our message to the masses without compromise and have been embraced,” he continues. “Thank you to the CMA Country Music Association. This is magical and you can bet the farm that my wife and I will show up dressed to impress yet trashy as ever – see y’all November 8th.”

Jelly Roll never imagined that he would go from a life of crime to being one of country music’s most successful artists. It’s a new reality that he admits he is still, happily, learning to accept.

“Everything’s changed,” Jelly Roll tells Audacy’s Katie & Company. “In every good way possible. A couple of bad ways possible, but that’s cool too. I expected that. You can’t expect God to give you this much of a blessing without a small burden. That’s kind of how that works. Even Paul complained about what he called the thorn in his side, whatever that affliction was that Paul had. But it’s been nothing short of incredible.”

Jelly Roll is the second most-nominated artist for the upcoming CMA Awards, with Lainey Wilson with nine nods as the only artist who received more than Jelly Roll.

Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning will return as hosts of the live ceremony. The 2023 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on Wednesday, November 8, at 8:00 PM ET on ABC. More information can be found at CMAAwards.com.
