Jelly Roll is already a country music superstar, but he has his sights set far beyond music. The 39-year-old has a dream of being on TV, and specifically as part of a series telling his own story, along with his wife, Bunnie.
“What my dream is, is to get into scripted television,” Jelly Roll said on Audacy’s K-FROG. “I think that’d be cool, if we told our story in like a 10-part series. That’s what I’m into. I’m always attracted to what I’m a fan of. We would go home at night and pick shows, anything from The Rookie on ABC to The Mayor of Kingstown, but we have so many rotating shows that we’re always watching a series.”
Jelly Roll has become a role model for people who have troubled pasts, and now also with his inspiring weight-loss journey. The Nashville native, who regularly visits the local detention center where he was once incarcerated, is happy when his fans stop him to talk about more than his music.
“I love people, I love hearing stories,” Jelly Roll maintained “It inspires me and encourages me… I know what the impact I have on people is.”
Jelly Roll has already lost more than 70 pounds, and vows to keep going until he is at a healthy weight.
“I’m probably down 70-something pounds,” Jelly Roll recently told People. “I’ve been really kicking a—. I’m doing two to three miles a day, four to six days a week. I’m doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I’m eating healthy right now.”
Jelly Roll is especially eager to get healthier before his Beautifully Broken Tour kicks off later this year.
“I feel really good,” the singer said. “I was thinking, I plan on losing another 100, 100-and-something [pounds]. If I feel this good down this weight, man, I can only imagine what I’m going to feel like by the time I go on tour.”
Jelly Roll might be looking for TV opportunities, but his music career is at an all-time high. The “Save Me” singer recently scored an impressive four ACM Awards nominations, including one for the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year.
“I didn’t expect to get this many,” Jelly Roll told People. “Even when I had a shelf built, I had it built for what I won last year thinking that was probably the best year of my life. I don’t know what to do about this thing still running … Not every awards show in America’s giving an opportunity to the guy that’s talking against fentanyl and representing the people I speak abou.”
“And to see four nominations just showed me how much my peers and the industry cares about what I think, even my core messages outside of the music,” he added.
Jelly Roll will also perform at the ACM Awards, along with Cody Johnson, Lainey Wilson, Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett and Chris Stapleton. The ceremny will air stream live on Amazon Prime on May 16 from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Tickets for the general public are available now, via SeatGeek. More information is available at ACMCountry.com.
Jelly Roll’s Beautifully Broken Tour begins on August 27. He will be joined on tour by Warren Zeiders and Alexandra Kay, who will both serve as his opening acts. Find all of Jelly Roll’s music and tour dates at JellyRoll615.com.
