The song is one of several that Jelly Roll is eager to share with the rest of the world, as soon as the album is finished.

“I Am Not Okay” is part of a brand-new album, the follow-up to the singer’s 2023 Whitsitt Chapel debut, which Jelly Roll says will likely be out in a few months.
“My sound has never fully favored the summer, so I think we’ll be coming out around fall … I do have a couple of fun songs on this album,” Jelly Roll hints on Audacy’s Katie & Company. “It was cool because I’m in a different headspace than I’ve ever been, so I was in a cool place to be able to write like that. I wrote most of my career from extreme, dark hopelessness, which I still write from, but I think this was like, I’ve had enough cool experiences. My music will always favor the fall.”
Jelly Roll just celebrated his fourth No. 1 hit with “Halfway to Hell,” but the 39-year-old says his new record will have a bit of a different sound than Whitsitt Chapel.
“I’m just able to write a couple of fun ones,” Jelly Roll says. “I am now trying to write from the perspective of the people the music helps. I wrote it from a personal perspective, but I realized that so many people felt the way I felt, now it’s just trying to surround myself … There were so many songs that were written from such unique points. I didn’t write any song on this album to try to be a hit. I wrote every song to be impactful. They have a real meaning. Like ‘Liar,’ I want you to listen to it a few times.”
One of Jelly Roll’s biggest problems is choosing from his vast collection of songs to determine which ones make it onto his next project.
“It’s the longest chapter I’ve wrote ever, maybe in my career. I wrote a hundred and something songs last year,” Jelly Roll recently revealed on the Country Heat Weekly podcast (via American Songwriter). “I don’t know how many of them I’m actually going to release this year. Last year, I did a really tight small package with Whitsitt Chapel. I told my wife I’m fighting the urge to start getting on TikTok like an artist that never made it and start dropping songs and see what goes. I have that many songs.”
