Jimmie Allen will not be able to perform at tonight’s CMA Awards as planned. The “Down Home” singer shared the disappointing news on social media, revealing he would no longer perform with the Zac Brown Band and Marcus King.
“I was looking forward to performing with my friends Zac Brown Band and Marcus King at the CMA Awards,” Allen writes. “Unfortunately I’m under the weather and won’t be able to. I look forward to watching them and the other performers tonight.”

Hopefully Allen will be better in time to return to life on the road with Carrie Underwood. The Delaware native is currently serving as the opening act on her The Denim & Rhinestones Tour, which resumes on Saturday, November 12, in Moline, Illinois.
“I was overwhelmed and excited,” Allen told Everything Nash of being asked to join Underwood on the road. “I’ve never been on the road with a female act headliner before, and I’ve always wanted to. I think it will be fun. I’m just hoping as an opening act, we can keep her crowd entertained and ready for her when she gets on there. The last thing I feel like you should do as an opener is for people to be bored to death, where they’re half asleep by the time the headliner gets on and they;ve got to warm the crowd back up. …I love Carrie’s voice. I love big singers, and I love that she wears a lot of bling and sparkle, ’cause I do too.”
Although Allen will be missed, the CMA Awards ceremony certainly will not be lacking live performances. Other artists scheduled to perform include Underwood, Reba McEntire, Chris Stapleton, Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, Luke Combs, Caylee Hammack, Cody Johnson, Elle King, Patty Loveless, Ashley McBryde, John Osborne, Pillbox Patti, Cole Swindell, The Black Keys, The War and Treaty, and Thomas Rhett with Katy Perry, Morgan Wallen, Miranda Lambert, HARDY, Lainey Wilson, Kelsea Ballerini, Carly Pearce, Kelly Clarkson, Marcus King. The show’s co-host Luke Bryan will also sing his current single, “Country On.”
The live broadcast will begin with a tribute to Loretta Lynn, by McEntire, Underwood and Lambert. Lynn passed away on October 4.
Allen’s latest album, Tulip Drive, was released in June. Keep track of tour updates at JimmieAllen.com.
Bryan will co-host the 2022 CMA Awards with Peyton Manning. The show will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 9, at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.
