John Berry is giving fans a new update on his health, after finding out early in 2019 that he had throat cancer. The 60-year-old recently had a check-up with his oncologist, sharing the latest findings on social media.
“I wanted to give y’all an update from Tuesday’s oncology check up,” John posted on Facebook. “My doctor was very pleased with the X-rays and saw nothing to be worried about. Great prognosis!! I’ll see him again in October then we go to twice a year. God is good!! Thank y’all for your thoughts and prayers.”
John previously said that, after grueling treatment that included chemotherapy and radiation, he was finally starting to feel like himself again.
“I’m doing pretty good,” the singer told Everything Nash. “I’m starting to put some weight back on. I lost a lot of weight from the chemotherapy. My eating is still kind of weird. I don’t eat a lot, which I think is a wonderful thing. My wife does not think it’s wonderful. It just takes a long time to get over the chemotherapy. It’s just the worst thing ever.”
John had a surprising recent hit with “The Graduation Song,” which he ironically wrote more than 40 years ago, when he was graduating from high school, never imagining how appropriate the song would become during the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s crazy,” John told Everything Nash. “I never imagined in a million years –– I recorded that on a record, In the Nightime, in 1981. I’ve played it live, and I’ve been invited to speak at some high school graduations and do the song and different things like that. It’s been one of those favorites of those fans that like to dive deep into the catalog and love songs. It’s like a little hidden gem.”
John understands how challenging life is right now, due to COVID-19, but insists that life will get better again, probably sooner than some think.
“It’s just a rough patch in the road,” John maintained. “It’s just a moment. It’s gonna pass and we’ll be on to something else.. Life is, you’re either in a struggle, coming out of a struggle, or you’re going into a struggle. That’s it. That’s just life.”
