If you think you know Jordan Davis already, his self-titled EP might surprise you. The Louisiana native just dropped Jordan Davis, a six-song collection of personal songs, which Jordan wrote with some of Nashville’s biggest writers, including Nicolle Galyon, Jesse Frasure, Hillary Lindsey, Ross Copperman and more. Of all the songs on the record, each which uncovers a layer of the singer-songwriter, perhaps none is as revealing as “Church in a Chevy,” which Jordan wrote about his own faith journey.
“It’s an ongoing conversation with (God),” Jordan told The Tennessean. “He wants a relationship with all of us, but sometimes we don’t wanna hear it. For me, the way that I get to listen is getting by myself and getting quiet and really working on hearing what he’s got to say. That’s when I feel like I’m most in-tune with the good Lord.”
Jordan is enjoying an unexpected amount of time at home with his wife, Kristen, and six-month-old daughter, Eloise, due to the coronavirus pandemic. “Church In a Chevy” was written long before he knew he would be off the road, but feels even more relevant now.
“When we wrote ‘Church In A Chevy’ it felt like it was more for me than anyone else. I’d been on the road a lot, Eloise was about to be born and I was feeling overwhelmed,” Jordan noted. “Six months later this song feels even more relevant. Things are crazy right now and I hope this song helps fans find the same peace it brought me.”
Jordan hopes to be able to perform the songs on his new project soon, but until then, he is making the most of his time with his wife and daughter.
“I think we would be getting ready to try to set an in-store up or album release show but we can’t quite do that right now,” Jordan said. “We’re gonna try to make the most of the situation we’re in.”
