Rising star Jordan Rowe just released his debut single, “Good for Nothin”! The singer-songwriter wrote the song with Jay Brunswick, as well as Jordan’s good friend and roommate, Ray Fulcher, who has helped pen some of Luke Combs‘ biggest hits, including “When It Rains It Pours” and “Even Though I’m Leaving,” among others.
“I had a write scheduled with Jay Brunswick over at Spirit publishing company,” Jordan recalled to Everything Nash. “It’s kind of a cool story how it came to be. We were in there, we had gotten our coffee and whatnot, and all of a sudden we’re sitting there talking ideas, and I hear this rock and roll guitar coming from the next room over. And I told Jay, ‘That sounded like ZZ Top.’ And he was like, ‘That is ZZ Top.’ The guys from ZZ Top were in the next room over, working on a song, and he was playing the guitar. It sounded just like all the records. It was so cool. I told Jay, ‘We can’t write anything sweet. We’ve got to write something tough today, with that going on.'”
Not only did Ray help them finish the song, but he’s provided Jordan a place to live since he started making trips to Nashville.
“I lived with him the summer before last, because when I was in school at the University of Georgia, I would come back and forth. In the summers, I would live [in Nashville] and write. and I was interning at River House and then I’d go back to finish school. So I lived with Ray two summers ago, and then I just moved back in with him this past June.”
Jordan works hard at his craft, but he also worked hard in school, graduating with a dual degree in Agribusiness and Agricultural and Applied Economics, along with a certificate in Music Business as well.
“They’re trying to work on it to be a major, but right now it’s in between a minor and a major, so it’s a two year program,” Jordan said of studying music as well. “I was doing the two majors in the Ag school and then working on that as well. So, they were busy college years.”
“I really wanted to do music, but I’m from the South,” he continued. “I’m from South Georgia and there’s plenty of opportunities in Agribusiness down there. So if music doesn’t work out and I ever had to move home, I thought that was a good backup plan.”
Thankfully, the 23-year-old has the full support of his parents while he pursues his passion, although he admits it wasn’t easy for them at first.
“It was hard on them, when I left,” Jordan acknowledged. “Even in college, I was half this far away, but it was still hard on them. But they’re 100 percent on board and very supportive. My dad, he actually sends me song ideas that he has all the time. He’ll be riding the lawnmower, and send me a bunch of song ideas. ‘Good for Nothin” he’s the one that actually gave me that title idea, ‘Good for Nothin’. I was like, ‘That’s awesome.’ And that’s where it came from.”
“Good for Nothin’ is from an upcoming EP, with the hopes of eventually recording a full-length album.
“Right now we have three songs that are recorded and ready to roll out,” Jordan revealed. “Over the next five or six months, we’ll release those other three. And in the meantime, I’m writing my butt off. Hopefully we’ll have enough songs to start working on a full album next year.”
