Josh Turner is used to spending most of his time on the road, performing in front of his fans, and he admits not being able to tour in 2020 has been especially challenging for him. But in spite of the hardship, the 42-year-old is remaining strong in his faith, and optimistic about the future.
“I’m a student of history,” Josh told Everything Nash and other outlets. “I love history, and if you know anything about years prior to the pandemic you know that there’s been a lot of hard times throughout history for people. There’s been a variety of ways we’ve suffered through a lot of things, and this is a tough time. People were out of work, afraid to go out out of their house. They were afraid to get sick. There’s just a lot of risk involved, and all of that’s understandable, but we as a people need to just realize that once we get past this, we’re going to look back, like, ‘Man, that didn’t last as long as it felt like it lasted when we were in it.'”
Josh is holding on to the lessons he learned growing up in church to help him stay focused on what really matters right now.
“Stay positive, try to encourage one another,” Josh urged. “Don’t miss the lessons that we’re being taught today. A lot of times we get caught up in worrying about tomorrow, and worrying about what the future holds when Jesus said not to worry about the tomorrow, because today has enough trouble of its own. So that’s the one thing I would say, is just to focus on the day. Sometimes when we start complaining and worrying about tomorrow too much, we miss the lessons that we could be learning today and the blessings that we have today too.
“We still have a lot to be thankful for,” he added. “The fact that we all have a roof over our head … we have a lot to be thankful for. Things could be a lot worse.”
Josh just released his new album, Country State of Mind, with Kris Kristofferson, Randy Travis, Runaway June and more. The record is available for purchase at JoshTurner.com.
