Kane Brown will have a full-circle moment next month, when Chris Young opens for him on Brown’s In The Air Tour, playing stadiums all over the country. It was Young who invited Brown to join him on Young’s Losing Sleep World Tour in 2018, a dream come true for Brown, who was heavily inspired by Young in the early days of his career.
Young is a very capable headliner of massive venues on his own, so Brown was shocked when Young accepted the invitation to be his opener on August 16 in Seattle, Washington.
“I was so stoked when I got to open for Chris,” Brown tells American Songwriter. “Chris was a huge part of everything I’ve done, just listening to his songs, singing them, and practicing with them. I didn’t think he was going to say yes when we asked him. I was like, ‘He’s definitely going to say no.’ So, for him to say yes meant the world to me.”
Brown joined Young on “Famous Friends,” the title track of Young’s 2021 album, and Brown is already eager to reprise the chart-topping, platinum-selling single while in Seattle.
“It’ll be fun actually singing that song with him on stage,” Brown predicts. “I don’t even think we said that, but it’ll be nice to sing ‘Famous Friends’ with him other than having another artist out.”
Brown has already headlined plenty of his own tours in the past, but the In The Air Tour is by far his favorite, at least so far.
“It’s been the most fun tour that I’ve been on, the most fun I’ve had touring in general,” the father of three boasts. “I couldn’t ask for anything better. I’m excited to get to do the stadiums. It’s gone by super fast, so I guess we were having fun.”
The In The Air Tour is taken from a line in “I Can Feel It,” Brown’s most recent No. 1 hit. The song is part of a new album that Brown has yet to announce, but promises will have at least a few guest artists on it.
“I keep getting songs and I’m like, ‘This is it,’ and I have so many,” Brown tells Country Now. “I was trying to go to the country route where everything’s super country, but then we just get these other collabs that are just massive.”
As for Young, soon after the tour was announced, the Tennessee native said he was happy to join his good friend for one of the dates.
“It’s Kane’s tour and I could not be looking forward to one tour stop more than I am for that one, because I’ve known that guy entirely too long,” Young told Everything Nash last fall. “I love him like a brother, and that’s why I said yes to it. I was like, ‘That’s gonna be so cool to be able to open for him after he opened for me multiple times.’ I’m super looking forward to it.”
