Kane Brown just teased a personal, and very vulnerable, new song. The country music hitmaker shared a clip of a song that is an autobiographical look at his own battle with depression.
“Sneak preview of a heavy song about depression and horrible thoughts and feelings that I feel like a lot of us go through but don’t like to talk about with other people,” Brown captioned the video. “If you relate to the song at all, just know you’re not alone, and I love you,”
The song says in part, “‘Cause I’m haunted by the voice in my head / Haunted by the taste of that lead / I wanted too many times to jump off of the edge / Thinking I was better off dead / I’m haunted only every other night / I’m haunted, and I wish I knew why / I wanted too many times to be gone by the morning, if I’m honest / Yea I’m haunted.”

Brown hinted earlier this year that he was addressing his own mental health struggles on his new album.
“I will say I have a couple of songs that are a little bit darker, about mental health,” Brown told ET Canada. “And then I have a song called ‘Learning,’ that I went a little bit more in-depth over the stuff that I went through, so I’m really excited about the music that we’re writing right now.”
Living life as a celebrity can make people think Brown is immune to struggles and hardships, which is why he is choosing to be open about his own mental health issues.
“I’ve always been pretty open about that stuff, and the longer I’m in the business, I just get more and more comfortable [talking about it],” he says. “But a lot of people are talking about it now, and I think it’s making it a little bit…easier for other people to talk about it as well.”
The father of two, with a third baby due this year, has a Top 10 hit with “I Can Feel It,” the debut single from his next album, a record that he is already eager to perform live.
“I took all the slow songs out of my set, even though that’s like my bread and butter, the slow music, but I don’t like to play it on stage,” Brown told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “I like to keep the show energized, keep the fans moving. I don’t want them to go get a beer. That’s what I’m going to focus on for the most part, for this new album.”
Brown will embark on his In The Air Tour on March 28, joined on the road by Chris Young, Tyler Hubbard, Cole Swindell, Jon Pardi and Bailey Zimmerman, Parmalee, LOCASH and RaeLynn. Find music and tour dates at KaneBrownMusic.com.
