Kane Brown is soon going to have another trophy to add to his growing collection. The father of three will receive the Country Champion Award at this year’s People’s Choice Country Awards. Brown is being given the honor because of his philanthropy and generosity.
“Since the beginning of his career, Kane Brown has ensured that his legacy will extend beyond music,” Jen Neal, Executive Vice President, Live Events and Specials, NBCUniversal Entertainment, says. “His dedication to empowering and supporting younger generations is nothing short of inspiring, and we’re thrilled to honor him with the Country Champion Award.”
The Country Champion Award was given to Wynonna Judd in 2023. This isn’t the first time Brown is being honored for something outside of his music career. Earlier this year, the singer-songwriter was honored with the CRS Artist Humanitarian Award, in recognition of his philanthropy, including his ongoing, generous work with the Boys and Girls Club.
“My dad’s been in prison since 1996,” Brown said when accepting the award. “My mom was a single mom working and raising two kids, trying to work multiple jobs. I never knew anything about money growing up, but now that I’m older, and realize what she was making back in the day, I don’t even know how we really survived. Sports was a huge thing for me after school, to stay out of trouble. My little brother went down a different path. So once I found out about the Boys and Girls Club, I just wished that I would’ve been part of the community.”
Brown doesn’t expect to be honored for his generosity, but rather does so because he has the means to help those who are in similar situations as he was once.
“I don’t ever expect to get an award for helping people, especially kids,” Brown said. “But the Boys and Girls Club just has been so amazing to me because, yes, I can help them, but they helped me, ’cause I see myself in them. I didn’t really have anybody to help me coming up. So it’s cool that I get to give back.”
In 2022, Brown was honored with the Boys & Girls Club’s prestigious Champion of Youth Award. He will be joined during the live ceremony by Miranda Lambert, who will receive The Country Icon Award.
The People’s Choice Country Awards are fan-voted. Voting is now closed.
Brown is nominated for a total of 11 trophies, including the night’s highest honor, the People’s Artist of 2024. See a list of nominees for the People’s Choice Country Awards here.
