The video for Keith Urban‘s Top 15 hit, “Brown Eyes Baby,” is out! The song was written by Morgan Wallen, Josh Thompson, Rodney Clawson and Will Bundy, and is from a forthcoming new project.
Perhaps surprisingly, Urban had already decided to record “Brown Eyes Baby,” even though he didn’t write it, before he found out that Wallen was one of the co-writers on it.
“I found that Morgan was a writer on it maybe the day after or thereabouts,” Urban told Everything Nash during a virtual media event. “He didn’t sing the demo. I think Josh Thompson, who’s one of the other four writers on the song, sang the demo. But it also made sense. It’s a great song, and Morgan’s a great songwriter. I was just thrilled that he didn’t want to cut it.”
“Brown Eyes Baby” follows “Wild Hearts,” the first single from his next record. The entire project was inspired by the New Zealand native’s love of Music City, and the creativity that surrounds him.
“There’s somewhat of a thematic creative context that I started to find songs all coming towards what would be this next project,” Urban explains. “Nashville is an incredibly creative community, and I’ve had the opportunity to travel everywhere and write with all kinds of people, and work with different people all over, really all over the world.
“And I’ve been so heartened to remember how much insane talent is here in Nashville: writers, engineers, players, producers, etc.,” he continues. “So there was a concerted effort on my part to look and find these songs that all came together with all of that criteria. That’s somewhat of the common thread that’s coming in this next album.”
Urban will begin his Keith Urban: The Las Vegas Residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. on Friday, March 3, 2023. Urban will perform 16 dates as part of his residency, which will conclude on July 1.
“I resisted a residency in Vegas for a few years. We got asked to come there quite a few years ago,” Urban tells Billboard. “I just didn’t think I would like it because in my head, it just seemed like the word residency just felt like, ‘Oh, you just doing the same show in the same place night after night after night,’ and that just sounded like an episode of Severance to me. But when we saw the Colosseum, I was ‘Oh my God, I think we’ll have a blast in here.’ I was surprised how much I loved it.”
