Kenny Chesney‘s Sun Goes Down Tour has come to an end. The country music superstar wrapped up his tour with an unprecedented three-night run at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Chesney was joined on his tour by Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker.
“The last night is always so hard, because you’ve shared so many things over a few months,” Chesney said ahead of his final show. “You get close, you have fun, and you live. But this year, this tour has been even more so because every single person who came to see us brought just as much heart to the shows as my road family and I brought. It was something you could feel everywhere we went.”
Chesney has historically ended his stadium tours at Gillette Stadium, but even he admits the crowd for his final shows was unlike anything even he has experienced in the past.
“I told Tom, my stage manager, ‘This is the best Gillette crowd we’ve ever had,'” Chesney praised. “They were so there, so on fire. We could feel it before we hit the stage. Once we were out there, it was insane … It was so strong, I had to bring my mom and her twin sister out to feel the crowd, too.”
Chesney might have been the headliner, but while on tour, he feels much more like a peer than one of country music’s biggest stars.
“The thing about these summers together, is it really is all about friendship,” Chesney said. “It’s about the people out here, our road family and everyone else’s road family, and how those connections grow. It’s a lot, and it’s precious.”
Chesney was especially thrilled to have Moroney out with him on tour. Known for bringing rising acts out with him on the road, after spending several months with her on tour, the Tennessee native predicts a big career for the “Tennessee Orange” singer.
“Watching Megan really come into her power this summer has been one of the best things I’ve seen in a long time,” Chesney shared. “She is a triple threat writer/singer/performer – and she’s found the space she wants to work from. Mark my words: she’s here for the duration.”
Now that his Sun Goes Down Tour is over, Chesney feels immense gratitude for the experience of sharing his music with so many fans, night after night.
“So many times this summer, I think it can’t get any better, then something like tonight happens,” Chesney said from Gillette Stadium. “From the fun of playing songs with my friends, sharing the rush with my mom and with No Shoes Nation, this is exactly the reason our refrain all summer long is: ‘Who lives like we do? WE DO!’ And it’s each and every single person who makes it possible.”
Chesney currently has a Top 40 single with “Just To Say We Did,” from his latest BORN album. Find all of Chesney’s music and upcoming shows at KennyChesney.com.
