Kenny Chesney is not very surprised that his Live at Sphere Las Vegas residency is almost sold out. The country music superstar had a feeling that his fans would latch onto the idea of seeing him perform in the ground-breaking venue, and he wasn’t wrong. Most of the dates, including the ones he added on due to fan demand, have almost completely sold out.
“You never know when you do something outside the box if people will follow you,” Chesney says. “I had a feeling as hard as No Shoes Nation sings all these songs back to me summer after summer, the chance to take this singular deep dive into them would hit them the same way it hit me. To be wrapped in this sound quality and all new visuals means a whole different way to get inside the music, and they’re as ready as I am.”
Chesney is the first country artist to play Sphere, which opened in 2023. The Las Vegas dates will also mark the only shows Chesney will play in 2025.
“Sometimes you want to go where other acts haven’t been yet,” Chesney reflects. “You don’t always know what’s going to happen, but that adds to the excitement. Anyone who loves music wants to get as immersed in it as possible. For me, Sphere offered something you can’t experience anywhere else – and even before we get there, I’m already finding myself in spaces with the songs and visuals I’d never thought of. It’s like magic, only better.”
The East Tennessee native kept his Live at Sphere residency to himself for most of last year, before revealing the news last month.
“The opportunity to perform at Sphere came about last April, actually,” Chesney remembers. “I was doing a tribute show for Jimmy Buffett at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and my friend Irving Azoff, in my dressing room told me that I should be the first country act to play the Sphere. I really didn’t know what I was going to do in 2025, but the opportunity to do this was just so great.”
Chesney has spent the last 27 years headlining tours. For him, the chance to do Live at Sphere was exciting not only for him, but for his fans as well.
“To be able to take my audience on a completely different journey,” he says of his reason for the residency. “To take my life’s work and this music and these songs and present it in a way I’ve never been able to present it before. I told everybody on my team and my road family, I said there’s no way we’re not going to do this.”
Chesney’s Live at Sphere comes as he has a Top 20 hit with “Just To Say We Did.” The song, from his latest BORN album, comes on the heels of Chesney celebrating his 33rd No. 1 hit, with “Take Her Home.”
“There’s a lot of music on this record that holds a significance for me or they wouldn’t have made the record,” Chesney tells his record label. “I think the most authentic one for me is ‘Just To Say We Did.’ It truly is a part of my DNA, my life experiences, but it doesn’t have to be the experiences that we describe in the song. It can be anything you do with friends, with family — whatever it is to create connection and the intimate details that later in life that you’re going to look back on.”
