Kenny Chesney is opening up about his decision to perform at Sphere in Las Vegas. The country music superstar recently announced his Live at Sphere Las Vegas residency, making him the first country artist to perform in the venue. For Chesney, it was an experience he couldn’t pass up.
“The opportunity to perform at Sphere came about last April, actually,” Chesney recalls. “I was doing a tribute show for Jimmy Buffett at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and my friend Irving Azoff, in my dressing room told me that I should be the first country act to play the Sphere. I really didn’t know what I was going to do in 2025, but the opportunity to do this was just so great.”
As with almost everything he does, Chesney chose to do Live at Sphere because of his fans, especially those who have been with him since the beginning of his career, more than 30 years ago.
“To be able to take my audience on a completely different journey,” he says of his reason for his Las Vegas residency. “To take my life’s work and this music and these songs and present it in a way I’ve never been able to present it before. I told everybody on my team and my road family, I said there’s no way we’re not going to do this.”
When talking about Live at Sphere, the 56-year-old said he wanted to do something that he hadn’t done before, especially for his No Shoes Nation fan club.
“As we’ve been rehearsing and thinking about how to present these songs in such an immersive way, the band and I have seen even more than we already know is in the music,” Chesney shares. “We’re not reinventing all these songs, but for No Shoes Nation, I think there’s a whole new dimension to experience. Or as someone said, ‘No one consumes music like No Shoes Nation, and now the Nation’s going to be consumed by the music.’”
The East Tennessee native just added three more dates, due to fan demand. Chesney promises that fans, even those who have been with him since the beginning, will see something new in Las Veags.
“We have been shooting all new footage, learning new technology, thinking about the songs in a whole new way,” he hints. “I’m glad No Shoes Nation is as excited as we are. And because this is such a beyond the imagination experience, we’re all going there together for the very first time.”
