Big news from Kenny Chesney today! The country music superstar is going to be the first country act to headline a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere. Live at Sphere will kick off on May 22, with 12 dates, wrapping up on June 14.
“Just the idea of 4D technology and the impossibly dialed-in sound raises the experience for No Shoes Nation, literally immersing them in music, visuals, sound and being together,” Chesney says (via USA Today). “To me, this is going to be a whole new way of rocking the fans, and I can’t wait.”
It was while seeing U2’s concert film, V-U2 that convinced Chesney he wanted to do something in the same venue.
“We stood on the floor as they ran the film of U2’s show and we were completely consumed,” Chesney recalls. “We could see the band, but it was so much more than that. It almost took what they were doing and multiplied it by another dimension.
“Knowing how much intensity our shows generate, my mind started thinking about all the things we could do,” he adds. “Once you see how the show wraps all the way around you, the dreaming begins.”
The 56-year-old teased a big announcement earlier this week. Chesney first posted a photo of him in the studio, captioning it by saying, “New year and new experiences. Started rehearsals today for what’s next. Can’t wait to share.”
He followed that cryptic post with a few more details, hinting at what fans could expect.
“I have always been one to let the music do the talking,” Chesney said at the time. “I think when we’re onstage, connecting with No Shoes Nation, nothing else really needs to be said. When they sing these songs back to me, that says everything. That said, this year is going to be unlike any other. This is one time when I probably do need to get out and explain exactly what we’re up to.
“But for now, I can say this: I am incredibly ramped up about what we’re in the middle of making happen for 2025,” he continued. “It’s one of those things where you can’t just throw it out there – so I am really glad we’re getting to spend some time at Today and then The Tonight Show.”
The East Tennessee native also hinted that his new endeavor would include music all the way from the beginning of his career to present day.
“The thing about so many of my songs is they’re pieces of people’s lives,” Chesney reflected. “Almost everyone can see themselves in there somehow. To me, singing people’s reality and hopefully showing them how sweet life can be sets a pretty cool bar.”
“There’s nothing like No Shoes Nation when they come together. It’s the greatest high there is,” he added. “We’ve been pulling songs out that we’ve not played in years, so who knows?”
Chesney has a Top 25 song with “Just To Say We Did,” from his latest BORN album. Tickets for Live at Sphere will be available beginning on January 31 at 1:00 PM ET. Find music and tour dates at KennyChesney.com.
