Kevin Costner is not only an award-winning actor, but a talented singer and songwriter as well. The Yellowstone actor teamed up with H. Jack Williams, along with Brothers Osborne‘s drummer, Adam Box, for “One More Day,” out now.
“We’re all trying to live our lives the best we can,” Costner explains of the inspiration behind the song. “Sometimes we fall short, but the heart of life is that we keep on trying. When it comes to the end and we meet our maker, the question I would ask is “Could you just give my good friend one more day?”
“The greatest gift you could ever give a friend would be just a little more time to try and do the best they can,” he continues. “For themselves and for the people they love. That was what I was feeling when we wrote ‘One More Day.'”
Williams, who sings “One More Day,” has been a longtime friend of Costner. An acclaimed singer-songwriter as well, Williams relied on his close relationship with Costner, as they made the idea for the song come to life.
“Having a friendship with Kevin Costner means so many things to me,” Williams tells Everything Nash. “First, the whole idea of what defines a friendship is something that has been a cornerstone for the strong bond between us. Then, there is the extremely high bar that Kevin continues to set for himself in everything he does, whether it’s about family, friendship or work that rubs off on anyone who is in arm’s length. Kevin can make those around him reach as high as they can, or dig as deep inside of us as we can to be the very best version of ourselves that we can be, do the very best work we can, and treat everyone the best we can.”
It was Costner who had the original idea for “One More Day,” with Williams following the movie star’s lead in crafting the finished product.
“With that being said, Kevin had some very serious ideas on how he wanted this song to play out in the end, especially in the bridge about ‘failing with honor.’ And without those ideas and words, this song wouldn’t be what it is. To me, this song is about me asking God when I die if He will just give me one more day to tie up any loose ends that I missed, simply as a favor, one buddy to the other.”
