New music has just arrived from Lady Antebellum! Fresh off the heels of their No. 1 song, “What I’m Leaving For,” the trio, made up of Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, has dropped “Champagne Nights.” The song was the grand-prize winner on the second season of Songland, written by Madeline Merlo, along with Shane McAnally and the three members of Lady A.
“Songland was such a validating experience as a writer, and I learned so much from my coach,” Madeline told American Songwriter. “I feel like I walked out of that experience a better writer.”
Madeline is certainly no stranger to the music world. The Canadian has already penned several songs that landed on the country charts in Canada, as well as starred in the musical movie, Country Crush, opposite Jana Kramer. But it’s the winning of Songland, and having Lady Antebellum record a song she wrote, that feels like the pinnacle of her career, at least so far.
“I made lifelong friendships and feel like all the work I put into my craft over the years had been validated,” Madeline said. “The members of Lady Antebellum were so kind and gracious, and Shane [McAnally] was a dream come true to work with. I loved every minute of being a part of that show.”
Lady Antebellum just released “What I’m Leaving For” as their next official single. The song is the third release from their latest Ocean album.
“This song really describes exactly where we’re at in our lives and the give and take to try to find a personal balance with career and family,” Hillary previously said of their latest single. “Whether you are in the military, returning from maternity leave or just experiencing those tender-hearted ‘goodbyes,’ we hope it resonates and evokes a piece of comfort in the example we set for our children.”
