Lady A‘s Hillary Scott and her eldest daughter, 11-year-old Eisele Kaye, are helping usher in the holiday spirit with a brand-new, original song. The two just released their “Hard To Wait For Christmas,” duet, out now. The festive song was written by Scott, her husband, Chris Tyrrell and Kaye, with the entire family joining in the fun for the behind-the-scenes video, including Kaye’s twin sisters, Emory and Betsy.
“We hope this song makes families smile and encourages them to laugh and have fun together as they wait patiently (or not!) for Christmas,” Scott says. “My favorite line from the song is about how it feels better to give than to receive, and if we could say anything about the Christmas season, it is that we hope you have a giving heart. That’s what really makes Christmas special — the gift of your time to the people you love, and the gift of your generosity to those in need.”
In an honest post on social media, Scott shares the inspiration behind “Hard To Wait For Christmas.”
“Last year Eisele, her dad, and I sat and wrote this song after a little family drama trying to explain to her sisters, Betsy and Emory, why we were not able to open every single day of the advent calendar,” Scott recalls. “This conversation led into all the other reasons why it is hard to wait for Christmas. Our hope is that this song makes your family smile and lean into the playful spirit of the holiday season while you wait 40 more days until Christmas.”
This isn’t Scott’s first foray into solo music. In 2016, Scott released Love Remains, a gospel album released under Hillary Scott & the Scott Family, including her mother, Linda Davis, her father, Lang Scott, and her younger sister, Rylee Scott. The record included the No. 1 single, “Thy Will,” which won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
Scott was inspired to write “Thy Will” after suffering a heartbreaking miscarriage in 2015.
“That song is about questioning God, and that it’s okay to do that, but to know that ultimately His plan is what’s best,” Scott said when the faith-based track was released. “And when I think about the things that have happened in my life, you don’t fully, one hundred percent, with all of your being, appreciate blessings, unless you have gone through struggle. And like the song says, like ‘You are God, and I am not. You see the big picture…and I believe that, but I’m not gonna lie to you that this really…is hard.’This is a real, hard thing to walk through and I need You to help me.'”
Scott hasn’t revealed her specific family plans for the holidays, but they will likely include the entire family matching for at least part of their celebrations.
“We are all about the matching PJs,” Scott divulged last year. “So the night before, on Christmas Eve, we all open up one gift, and it’s always pajamas. Over the last couple of years, we’ve gone to see a movie on Christmas Eve, which is fun. There’s always a really fun kids movie out that we try to go see.”
