Lainey Wilson Announces Engagement to Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges

Lainey Wilson is getting married! The country music superstar reveals on social media that her longtime boyfriend, Devlin “Duck” Hodges, proposed. The couple began dating in 2021, but waited until 2023 to go public with their relationship.

“4x4xU forever,” Wilson captioned the photos.

4X4XU” is the title of Wilson’s current Top 5 single. The song, from her latest Whirlwind album, was written about Hodges, who she said inspired her for the first time to write love songs.

“The truth is, I write what I know, and I finally found a man worth writing about,” Wilson says (via American Songwriter). “So you know it’s a love song because y’all probably thought, ‘Dang, she ain’t got it in her… but I do. I got me a cheerleader.’”

Wilson has been very vocal about her appreciation for Hodges, especially in recent years.

“He knew getting into this, this is what I’ve been doing my whole life, this is what I’m gonna do, and so he knew what he was getting himself into,” Wilson shares on Audacy’s Rob + Holly. “He is a supportive cheerleader and he’s got his own things going too, and I support him and I cheer him on. He high-fives me in the door and on the way out.”

A former professional football player, Wilson says they have a lot in common, in spite of their vastly different careers.

“He played football for a while and he had to work his tail off to get to where he ended up, and he went for that from the time he was five years old ’til he made it to the NFL,” Wilson says. “So in a different kind of way, he’s done what I’m doing.”

“He knows just enough about the music industry, but not too much to where I can completely turn it off and we can just be cooking supper and talking about the most random things [while] watchin’ Family Feud… it’s good to have him to escape [to],” she adds.

Wilson will have to do a lot of wedding planning on the road this year. She recently announced her massive Whirlwind World Tour, kicking off on March 4 in Zurich, Switzerland. But before she begins the global tour, she is taking some time for herself, which she intentionally carved out to start off 2025. She might have filled those dates too, if not for the wise advice of her good friend,  Miranda Lambert.

“She was like, ‘It’s so important for me to get out there and scoop the poop and throw the hay and catch the horses. Those are the things that remind you what’s really important.’ … I need to get bored,” Wilson tells NME.

“I’m looking forward to sitting around a bonfire at night and waking up late and sitting on the porch with my dog,” she adds “I’ve been touring solid since I was in eighth grade.”
