Lainey Wilson‘s third studio album, Whirlwind, is less than a year old, but Wilson is already working on her next record. The 32-year-old reveals that she already has several songs for her next project, even though she has no idea when it will be released.
“Always we are. Always because I mean, before Whirlwind was out, I really was already starting on this,” Wilson shares on Apple Music Country‘s The Kelleigh Bannen Show. “I feel like how it happens, it takes forever for a record to come out. And then by the time it does and it’s out for a little bit, you’ve already lived a lot of life to the point, to where you have so many more stories to tell. So I think it’s important to start putting those stories down before the other one comes out.”
One song that will likely be on her new project is a song called “Bell Bottoms Up,” which Wilson says is already finished.
“I don’t have a release date. But we have a bar called Bell Bottoms Up,” Wilson explains. “We wrote a song called ‘Bell Bottoms Up’. I had said for a long time, I was like, ‘If I ever have a bar on Broadway it’s going to be called Bell Bottoms Up.’ So we wrote the theme song, and I wrote it with my band.”
Wilson has had plenty of unforgettable moments in her career, ever since her debut “Things A Man Oughta Know” single came out in 2020. The Grand Ole Opry member is doing her best to soak in every moment, and not forget any of them.

“I try my best because I have let moments pass me by that, looking back on it, I’m like, ‘Dang, that went by so quick,'” Wilson shares. “But I had to be prepared for whatever was next because you have to be on your toes. You have to be ready. Even though you might be playing the biggest show of your life, you might be having to sing a new song tomorrow and you’re thinking about that. And you got to be like a step ahead. But especially this past year, I’ve been able to take a step back and not be as crazy busy and really soak in these moments.
“It’s so important,” she continues. “And so many people have told me that, artist friends who have been around for a long time, they’re like, I’m telling you, look up, because you’re going to blink and it’s going to be 20 years and they’re just gone. And you’re going to be like, man, I don’t even remember that time of my life and I don’t want to do that.”
In addition to Wilson’s busy career, she is also busy planning a wedding to her fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges.
“He is a brave man,” Wilson says of Hodges, whom she has been with for four years. “First of all, anybody who is okay with this lifestyle and being in the business so much and being gone all the time, he was plucked from the sky for me …I can’t imagine doing this and being where I am now and then trying to find somebody who I feel like is okay with this lifestyle but also has the right intentions and everything. And Duck is just as true blue as they come. So the Lord has blessed me.”
