LOCASH might soon have a second No. 1 hit on their hands. The duo, made up of Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, are inching close to the top of the charts with their current single, “One Big Country Song,” from their 2019 Brothers album.
“It keeps flip-flopping,” Preston told Everything Nash, speaking of their position on the charts. “It’s just going back and forth. And I mean, who said sports are canceled? All they gotta do is look at one of these charts. This is competitive. This is the nail-biter, going to come down to a last second three-point shot by somebody. It’s going to be crazy.”
LOCASH. whose first No. 1 hit was “I Know Somebody,” is fighting for the top spot along with Chris Janson, and his hit single, “Done.” While they are both huge fans of Chris as a person and an artist, Preston and Chris acknowledge they would love to claim the No. 1 song in the country.
“It’s friendly competition,” Preston said. “His song is so big right now. It’s got some momentum. And so we’re just trying to stay ahead of that this week. And then they’ll ease into that No. 1 spot. Hopefully we’ll ring the bell Saturday night and then they’ll ring it next week. But you never know. Sometimes it happens differently than your plan.”
LOCASH definitely wants the No. 1 spot, but whether or not it happens, they already rightfully feel like big, big winners.
“We’re feeling blessed,” Preston gushed. “During something like this right now in our world, it’s a massive silver lining for us. We’ll take it. If it’s the Top 5, it’s a life-changer for you. If it’s a Top 10, it’s a life-changer. A lot of the fans out there, and the country music listeners, they don’t know when songs go No. 1 or what it really means, but it really does mean something for our team, because we’re 64 weeks old on the charts. And that really speaks volumes about the BMG and Broken Bow / Wheelhouse team.
“They’ve all come together to support this song,’ he added. “They treated it like their baby since May of 2019, and that is nothing to shake a stick at. You gotta give it up to them, and take your hat off to them because Chris and I really feel like they’re the best team in town. We just applaud them every time we talk to them because they’re achieving something unheard of with the 64 weeks.”
“One Big Country Song” was released long before anyone could have predicted the way the coronavirus pandemic would affect the world. But while the impact has been devastating for artists of all genres, LOCASH acknowledges that the timing for the uplifting song might have been perfect.
“People are gravitating towards the song because of that,” Chris said. “The streaming is way up right now. We all need to feel good. It’s been our light watching it climb. As of March, it just started catching fire. During this time, where we were losing shows after shows, we had that at the end of the tunnel, looking at our song climbing and getting bigger. LOCASH has always been that positive relief for someone to feel good for three minutes. We’ve always done that with our songs.”
